This enclosure box is specifically for the stock Prusa MK2, MK3, MK3S, and MK3S+ without the MMU2 attachment. If you intend to get an MMU2 at a later date that is a different model.
The Prusa i3 line has the capabilities, fit, finish, and attention to detail of a much more expensive printer. In a market awash with inexpensive printers full of crappy parts that wear out quickly, everything about the Prusa i3 is quality. Its hot end can print anything, there's a best-in-market removable bed, and the slicer is tuned to make the most of the printer.
The only thing the Prusa lacks is an enclosure box or case to make full use of its capabilities. Our Prusa enclosure kit retains the offensive odors and air contaminates from melting plastics and creates better-looking prints to boot. This product is a professional-grade, cool-looking enclosure you can assemble in about an hour and works with a stock Prusa i3: no modifications needed.
Advantages of adding a 3DUPfitters enclosure:
Provides outside air to the power supply with no modifications to the printer
More flexibility to print different types of filaments, including ABS
Optional fume filter or vent to the outside improves indoor air quality (both sold separately)
A controlled temperature creates better quality prints
The enclosure kit works by retaining the bed's heat to bring the ambient temperature up high enough, stabilizing ABS and other filaments that expand when they cool. The fan will draw cold air across the power supply, simultaneously heating the air and cooling the supply. The heated air circulates within the enclosure, providing a steading temperature. The expelled air can be vented into the room, sent through an optional air filter (not included), or vented to the outside via a hose. (not included)
3D Print Your Own Connectors. Or Not.
A lot of customers prefer to print their own connector pieces themselves. We get it: you've got a great 3D printer, and it is itching to print things. No problem! The kit includes the STLs for all 3D printed parts like corner connectors, knobs, vents, etc. Typically it takes about 48 hours to print everything you'll need with a .4mm nozzle and .2mm layer height.
On the other hand, if you purchase the optional connector kit, all parts are 3D printed in the best quality American-made ABS. It not only will withstand the heat year after year, but it's also one of the most rigid plastics to add that will make the enclosure sturdier. We proudly use the best ABS filament you can buy from Atomic Filament in Indiana.
DON'T USE PLA!
If you still want to print your own parts, just remember that temperatures inside an enclosure will melt PLA, so you will get the best results with printing parts in a high-quality ABS, ASA, or Nylon. The catch-22 is you need an enclosure to print ABS! If you don't already have an enclosure, you can make do with PETG. Just keep in mind that PETG is more flexible and will make the entire enclosure less rigid than if you had used ABS.
Pro Quality American Made Acrylic
The panels are made in a factory in Ohio and cut on an American-built industrial laser, and then flat-packed for your assembly. All you need for assembly is just a hex wrench and a small Philips head screwdriver. (not included.)
Temperature Range
Internal temperatures vary depending on the ambient room temperature outside the enclosure as well as where you measure the temperature. We use these enclosures to print both PLA and ABS daily, so rest assured the temperatures are "safe" to use.
The entry-level model has all 3mm acrylic and is a great option for the hobbyist on a budget.
6mm Front, 3mm Sides
The most popular model has a 6mm front and 3mm sides. The thicker front is a big improvement for the door.
6mm Front and Top, 3mm Sides
If you want to use 3Kg+ spools on top of the enclosure then the 6mm top upgrade is a must. This is the configuration we use in our print farm and it's also popular with libraries and schools that need a sturdier enclosure at a good price.
All 6mm
If you want to gain a couple of degrees of heat retention or intend to move your enclosure around a lot the 6mm all-around is the best you can buy.
Prusa MK2 Support
Note that because of the close tolerance around the power supply, the height of the printer must be stock for the MK3 with its rubber feet. The MK2 will also fit, but getting it to be the correct height will involve the use of one of the many feet available on Thingiverse. The latest solution is a really cool dual-material and anti-vibration design from one of our customers.
